Info

Throw a stone to east of Helsinki and it will drop into the green soil of Southeast Finland. That’s how close we are to the capital of Finland.

Sipoo, with its gloomy wilderness forests and rolling grain fields is located only about a 30-minute drive by car from the centre of Helsinki, Helsinki Airport and Vuosaari Harbour.

It is only an hour’s drive to the charmingc old city of Porvoo and 1½ hours to Loviisa, a town known for its idyllic wooden houses. Maritime Kotka and Hamina, as well as Kouvola, which is close to nature, are just a 2-hour drive from Helsinki.

The location of Southeast Finland is truly one of its trump cards. It is easy to get here!

Located next to Helsinki, the region is traversed by a network of motorways and roads in excellent condition. By the way, there are no tolls in Finland, so you don’t need a stash of coins stash in your glove compartment.

You can easily continue your journey to Finnish Lakeland and Eastern Finland through Southeast Finland.

You can get to Finland and Vuosaari, next to Southeast Finland, from Travemünde, Germany, on Finnlines ships. The trip from Travemünde takes about 30 hours, giving you plenty of time to sleep and recharge your batteries.  www.finnlines.com

The air routes are also open! The drive from Helsinki Airport to Sipoo is less than half an hour and, from Lappeenranta Airport to Kouvola, about an hour.

Several buses go to the area, and Kouvola can also be reached by train.

Travel the distance differently! M/s Runeberg, a steamboat built in 1912, operates between Helsinki and Porvoo. Read more

In the summer, there is also the Porvoo Museum Railway society’s historic museum train service between Helsinki and Porvoo where you can experience the authentic atmosphere of old-time tourism! Read more

You will fall in love with Southeast Finland. Here you will experience Finland in miniature: nature, lakes, archipelago, urban culture and delicious food.

Every season offers its best: summer – its verdant nature and long days, autumn – its gorgeous colours, winter – its snowy landscapes and cooling ice holes to swim in, and spring – the flight of migratory birds and forest paths lined with wood anemones. Cities offer things to see and experience regardless of the season.

Finns are nice people! We speak Finnish, English and – because we are a bilingual country – Swedish. Some of us even speak German.
